St James Church News
From the Interim Moderator
A Letter from our Locum
It’s that time again!
Eighteen months and mote have come and gone since I began my pastoral and preaching duties at St James’ Parish Church.
In that time I’ve been to Hell and back. Honestly! No, it’s not what you are thinking.
I have been made welcome, as has my wife, and I would not wish you to think otherwise
Certainly the Hell visited was hot enough - 90-plus in the shade and yes, I even saw the Devil - all part of an innovative marketing ploy of a shopkeeper in Grand Cayman during our Caribbean cruise last winter to entice tourists to his little corner which was smaller than my garden
His tourist-tat shop which looked like a brightly painted Wimpev site hut was named Hell. And he dressed up as the Devil All part of his image.
How do we sell ourselves as Christians? Our very attendance week by week, our support for the church in all its work - and our enterprising and attractive web site all contribute to our response to Christ’s appeal.
But we need to do more, much more. All of us. That’s why God gives us the strength to keep going when times are hard, when we might think everyone and everything militates against us,
Have faith. Lean on God and when we celebrate Christmas the message of the Babe in the Manger will become clear. Rejoice in Christmas and have a Good New Year!

Book Review
Left Behind by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins
It is not often I read a book that really impresses me. This book did.
It is an imaginative attempt at considering what the message of the Bible is
about the end of time. This is the first book indeed of a series of books that
attempt to do just that. I could not put it down ,nor the next in the series
Tribulation force. These certainly are books to make you think and to get
your life into perspective!
Not everyone will agree with the writers understanding of the prophecies
in scripture about the last days. But nevertheless these books are well worth
reading and contain many fascinating insights.
Why don't you give the first one a go! It could seriously make a new person
of you.
